Bone Density

Our Bone Denistometry examination is performed in a comfortable setting with no injections. It has a very low radiation dose and is a painless procedure.

What is Bone Densitometry?

A bone mineral density scan (BMD), also known as a DEXA scan, uses advanced technology to determine your bone health.

The scan is usually done on the lower back and one of the hips although sometimes the forearm is included in the examination.

Why is Bone Densitometry done?

These types of bone scans aid in the detection of osteoporosis, which is a condition where bones become fragile and brittle leading to a higher risk of fractures or breaks.

According to Healthy Bones Australia, 66% of Australians aged 50 or over, have osteoporosis or osteopenia (lower bone density than normal). However, osteoporosis can be both preventable and treatable, particularly when bone loss is detected at the earliest possible stage.
